2 charged in Minot AFB canine neglect instances


MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (KXNET) — A person and a girl have been charged with animal cruelty after police say they discovered lifeless and malnourished canine of their house on Minot Air Drive Base.

The Ward County Sheriff’s Division responded to a home on the bottom on Thursday, Might 26, for a report of animal neglect, based on police.

Upon arrival, the sheriff’s division and Minot AFB legislation enforcement discovered two lifeless canine together with six others, which appeared malnourished. The home was in “disarray,” with rubbish and dried animal urine and feces in all places, police mentioned.

The house owners surrendered the animals whereas an investigation was carried out.

On Friday, after police spoke with a veterinarian on the situation and well being of the animals, warrants have been put out for 21-year-old Jim Michael Velez Diaz and 19-year-old Katelynn Marie Mercier. The pair have been arrested and booked on the Ward County Detention Heart.

Diaz and Mercier have been each charged with 5 counts of animal cruelty.
